Before writing became a passion of mine, I discovered photography and moving imagery. I was given my first camera when I was 4 by my mom, it was a Polaroid and I took my first picture on Christmas Day with my family back in the day of Texas, America 1988 and saw the results come out instantly, I was amazed by that process. I found it awesome that there was a window into the past and I had instantly preserved that moment forever. Fast forward 14 years later and with the impact it made on me I wanted nothing more than to work in a photography studio.
I was manager of a photography studio down in Birmingham when I was 18 and got to experience the diversity of the people coming through the door. I learned a lot about photography and lighting in that environment. I absolutely love photography as it captures moments that quickly go by in life and unless you see it, you will forget it. I love the way photography can capture emotion between two people, within a split second of time it can provoke a lifetime of meaning and amplify the feelings felt at the time. Another passion of mine is film, I love watching movies and seeing a good story and getting lost in the movie. I love the ratio of a theatrical presentation and the epic scope of certain films. My favourite director is Steven Spielberg and love the stories he tells. Other directors I enjoy watching are David Fincher, Tim Burton, Francis Ford Coppola and Ridley Scott. All their films are very visual and can be watched without the sound and I still enjoy the film. George Lucas is also a favourite of mine for past work achieved. Plus without him there would be no Pixar Features. So hat's off to the man. The visual look of a film is really what inspired me to do the type of photography that I do and enjoy. I also watched a lot of behind the scenes features of favourite movies and became thrilled about the process of making a film just as much as the film itself. BioThe set up and the way the cinematographer uses the camera and lenses and how each and every person has a specific job in which the director must co-ordinate to achieve his vision. The way the actor's and actress's work and rehearse and find their craft in the process is amazing to see. Watching creativity in the process is so fascinating to me and I especially like when the feature would visit the model shop and visual effects group to see how certain shots are put together and then edited with sound/music added to create the final composition. The whole project is like an orchestra all working together to create the masterpiece.
I also love collecting fine art paintings from all over the world, and in the thousands I have amassed, they have given me my inspiration for the texture in many of my images. If you would Like to see the evolution of my imagery, please click here for a full portfolio. So the paintings have inspired my editing and the motion picture industry has influenced the way I structure my images.
